January 2012 Newletter
Hi all, Kenn here. This pasted Saturday a RLHC Board meeting was held at the DDI and I am happy to say it was packed. Thank you to all of you who came out to show your support for the coming LARF season. I know many of you had another meeting to attend about the up coming Comic Con. ( more on that to follow).
I opened meeting with these Board Members in attendance:
President Derek Thursh
Vice President Kenneth Dickson
Secretary Amy Dickson
Director Joe Martin
*Absent was Director Jamie Haeuser
First order of business was to elect the Board for 2012. The new Board was voted in as follows.
Kenneth Dickson as President
Derek Thrush as Vice President
Ella Long as Secretary
Joe Martin Director
Ronnie Buhler Director
The Board accepted the resignations of Amy Dickson and Jamie Haeuser. We greatly appreciate the years of time and effort that both Amy and Jamie have given to the RLHC, thank you.
Second, Kenn and Derek will complete all of the Reporting, Renewals, Annual Report, Tax filings, and replacement of lost documents by April 15th.
Third, we heard the report from Caitlan Powers on the RLHC Member Meeting in La Place, LA held on Dec. 29, 2011. She stated that those who attended the meeting had many concerns about the changes in the upcoming year.
1. What will the new Guidelines be for RLHC Members to participate at LARF ?
2. Will there be More emphasis on Theater and Less on Historical Facts ?
3. Will RLHC continue to have control of How and What Demos are presented ?
4.How to increase Member Participation on Student Days ?
5. Full Discloser of RLHC Budget for the up coming year.
6. How to Identify RLHC Members.
7. How to better restrict Patrons from “ Back Stage Areas.”
8. Better Organization of “ Food Service”.
9. More instruction time given to Social Class to Class interactions.
10. More promotion of RLHC Services to Schools.
Many of these concerns were addressed by Alvon Brumfield of the LARF.
1. New Guidelines will be set this coming Saturday, Jan. 14th. At a combined meeting of LARF Staff and RLHC Board members. They will be presented at the up coming “Cast Calls”.
2. RLHC Demos are Based on Historical Fact as best we can. We will learn Theater Skills to Better our Presentation of those Facts.
3. Demos will be Judged to be Acceptable buy a Panel of Both RLHC and LARF.
4. RLHC will promote Volunteering for “Student Days” well in advance to include sign up sheets for positions available. RLHC Board will discuss the possibility of Minimal pay for Student Lunch Servers.
5. In the passed RLHC has paid it’s bills first then when funds are available we maintain, beautify, or construct new structures. Ronnie Buhler has accepted the duty of Director over these projects. He will identify what needs to be done and recommend what gets priority. This will be presented at a Board Meeting. The Board will hear from interested Members, make any changes to the proposal as needed then vote.
6. All Cast will be Members of the RLHC. We will all have the same “CAST BADGE”.
7. Access fence is on the list of construction improvements.
8. There will be a “Director” of Food Service. This is to be separate of the “Cooking Demo”.
9. This will be discussed at the upcoming Staff Meeting.
10. At this time the promotion of “Student Days and RLHC Services” is being done by LARF at no cost to the RLHC. The Board would LOVE to have Flyers made for the RLHC, but at this time the RLHC is not financially able to move forward with our own Flyers. The Board is more than happy to hear any and all proposals on this matter.
There will be more information avable after this next staff meeting.
Thank You,
Kenn Dickson,
President RLHC

Many thanks to those that remained active and supportive in 2010. Additionally, thanks to those that helped make the 2010 LARF season. Thru the many challenges it took, we managed to make the best of it.

Membership
As a reminder, yearly donations are due - January each year. Your generous yearly contribution to the organization allows us to continue providing the services and accomplish our mission. Please take a moment and find the 2011 application on the Membership Area page. Complete it and mail/send it in along with your yearly donations. A receipt will be provided.
Monetary contributions/donations are graciously accepted as well. All gifts are used by the organization to directly provide the services of and/or meet the obligations of the organization.
Really to be a part of the decision making processes and in the know about what is happening within "our" organization, you need to be a member in good standing and an active participant in the workshops/monthly meetings. This organization as in any other is only as good as it's members willingly and actively support. This is not always measured monetarily but as with any organization is the participation of ideas and democratic choice. Your committment to the organization needs to be a reality from the Board Member to the General Member. It needs to be a TEAM effort not the efforts year after year of a few individuals. This principal will be a cornerstone of the very survival of the organization in the coming year and years to come as we prepare to meet the challenges before us.

RLHC BOARD Notes:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Web-site:
Sabrina Ferrage is our webmistress. If anyone has any ideas for the web-site let Sabrina or me know. Comments good or bad are always welcome. Thanks to Sabrina for the additions so far. It's looking good.
If you are a demonstrator, I would like for you to have your own web-page. This will be a page where you can tell everyone who you are and what you do in the village. I will be asking the demonstrators to research their village profession and, along with Sabrina, create your web-page with photo's, etc.
Note from Sabrina: Demonstrators, just email me pics, info, and suggestions for your page. I will make it up then you can approve or get changes made. If you do not use computers so much, give me the pics and info in person. [email protected]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Village Positions:
Please see the 2011 RLHC Village Positions page. If there is an open spot and you want to fill it - talk it over with the master (for Apprentices) or the Guild Master - Kenn. This year we are strongly suggesting that any new villagers attend the LARF Cast workshops. This is an invaluable experience that will better prepare you to interact with us as well as cast, LARF staff and performers.
